Easy Instant Pot Beef Biryani
Servings: 6 servings
Equipment
- InstantPot
Ingredients
- 2 lbs Beef cubed
- 2 cups Basmati Rice
- 1/2 cup Cooking Oil Canola, Vegetable, Olive, etc.
- 1 cup Milk & Water 1/2 cup milk & 1/2 cup water, or 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 Medium Onions thinly sliced
- 2 Medium Tomatoes chopped
- 1 tbsp Ginger Paste
- 1 tbsp Garlic Paste
- 1 cup Plain Yogurt beaten
- 1/2 cup Coriander chopped
- 1/3 cup Almonds or Cashews
- 1/3 cup Raisins
- 1/2 cup Fried Onions optional
Biryani Spice Mix
- 3 tsp Salt to taste
- 2 tsp Ground Cumin
- 2 tsp Ground Coriander
- 2 tsp Ground Tumeric
- 1 tsp Ground Ginger
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Black Pepper freshly ground
- 1 tsp Nutmeg freshly ground
- 1 tsp Cardamom ground
Instructions
- Wash the rice until the water runs clear.
- Soak the rice in cold water.
- Turn the Instant Pot to 'sauté' and add 1/2 cup oil. When it says "hot" add the thinly sliced onions. Sauté until light brown (about 3-5 minutes).
- Add the beef, ginger, garlic paste, and the spice mix to the sautéed onions. Stir everything together, making sure the spice mix is evenly mixed with everything else. Sauté for 5 minutes.
- Add 1/2 cup of water and mix well.
- Set the valve to Sealing position and pressure cook for 10 minutes. This step makes the meat really nice and tender.
- Release pressure and open the lid carefully.
- Add the yogurt, tomatoes, almonds, and raisins. Mix everything together.
- Add the soaked rice on top of the meat mixture, spread it to make a thin layer of rice. Add 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup milk (or 1 cup water). The water should just cover the rice layer.
- Set the valve to Sealing position and pressure cook for 10 minutes.
- Let pressure release naturally. Once released, carefully open the lid and mix everything together.
- Serve in a bowl, garnish with fried onions and coriander.
Notes
In place of garlic paste, you can use 1″ piece of chopped ginger that is 1″ in diameter.
In place of garlic paste, you can use 3-4 cloves of minced garlic.
In place of almonds, you can substitute with same quantity of cashews.
